Space Object Behavioral Sciences initiative director Moriba Jah and other UA officials met with Rep. Jim Bridenstine, R-Okla., in his office on June 10 in Washington, D.C., to discuss the UA’s role in space protection, traffic management, and situational awareness.
Bridenstine, a former military pilot, released the American Space Renaissance Act in April at the 32nd Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, where Jah was a panelist.

Japanese startup ALE aims to launch a satellite capable of generating artificial meteor showers in an attempt to learn more about how space junk burns up when it re-enters Earth’s atmosphere.
But Moriba Jah, director of the University of Arizona’s Space Object Behavioral Sciences initiative, is skeptical that the satellite will substantially improve the science and is concerned that the project may create debris of its own by inadvertently hitting other satellites.

Moriba Jah met other researchers from around the globe on May 31 and June 1 in Canberra, Australia, to discuss ways to solve problems associated with space debris. Jah focused on the implications of and dangers associated with growing levels of space debris.
While in Canberra, attending the Space Environment Research Centre’s (SERC) International Research Colloquium, Jah was interviewed by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
